Celtic Dragons face Yorkshire Jets tonight in their fifth game of the 2013 Superleague season for a must win result if they are to keep hopes alive of entering the top tier after the ‘Super-Split’ on 23rd March 2013.
Dragons come off a heavy defeat to title holders Manchester Thunder last week, losing 39 – 62, and will be looking to make amends this week.
Traveling up to Leeds the night before the game has meant the squad were able to wake up fresh faced in the match city this morning, and will undergo a training session this morning ahead of tonight’s sold out game at 8pm.
Previous clashes against the Yorkshire side have resulted in Dragons winning three from three games:
17 February 2012 (Home) CD 41 – 49 YJ
16 March 2012 (Home) CD 60 – 46 YJ
20 April 2012 (Away) CD 61 – 42 YJ
Dragons Head Coach Melissa Hyndman is wanting a good performance as her priority over the result.
"Win or lose tonight, for me it’s more about getting a good performance. The bonus would be the win, but for me the last couple of performances haven’t been our best, so the score is really irrelevant, for me it’s about getting the performance.
"The Celtic Dragons is important not only for us as franchise to stay strong in this competition but it’s also for me looking at my Welsh international players, and they’ve got a lot to prove tonight so performance for me is key."
Co Captain Sara Hale is clear about the team’s expectations.
"We need to win and we expect to win. We need to rectify the things that let us down in the Manchester Thunder game, and take away the positives.
"We need to expose the fact that Jets played on monday night. They played a hard fought game even though they beat Surrey."
Hale said that traveling the night before is beneficial.
"It helps to be here and train in the morning and have a really good day together.
"Everybody’s really excited to play – always a nice place to come and play – a really good crowd. They want to see good netball from either side."
